Endemic: this prickly pear cactus is one species of 14 varieties found in the Galapagos.  The cactus found in this photo is only found on Santa Fe.  Cactus can be found on many of the Islands including: Bartolome, Rabida, Genovesa, Santa Fe and Santa Cruz.  The largest cactus can be found on Santa Cruz Island that can grow to be 12 meters.  Cactus that grows closer to the ground is found on Islands that do not have Iguanas or Tortoises, the reason is because they do not have to protect their own leaves.
